Welcome to Our Campaign
I’ve never run a campaign before. When you’re a Journalist that’s not really something you focus on. In the last five months I’ve learned so much about this industry. Yes, this is an industry. People talk about campaign reform, and I agree it’s needed, but never really understand where all that money raised actually goes.
There are paper products, palm cards, stamps, envelopes to send to donors, thank you letters, bumper stickers, hand outs, gas to get you here and there and motels aren’t cheap and two full grown men can’t sleep in an Acura TSX very well.
We are as grassroots as it gets. I know a lot of people use that term to describe their campaign. When we use it it’s not a term it’s a fact.
Our staff is so great. We have Josh Kagi (I’ll have to get him to let me take a picture so I can show you who he is. Josh is the quiet one but gifted on computer and in communications). He’s been with me since the beginning, as has Jack Roberts one of our advisors. We have five advisors who know Oregon Politics and more importantly understand people. We’ll tell you more about them later.
The guy in the picture is Aaron Larsen. We just hired him a few weeks ago to manage our campaign. What a gift. In addition to managing us he shoots and edits the “Webisodes” which is becoming a trademark of this campaign. We want you to be a part of what we’re doing. What better way to do that then bring you along with us? We enjoy your company. We also have Betsy Schultz who organizers our special events. Jenny graves just came on board to organize our volunteers. Many of you will be hearing from her soon. Jake my oldest son is interning with us. You’ll see some of his message pop up now and then. My wife Kathy handles the bills. She and Carol Russell (treasurer) keep the money straight. They also give the rest of us the support we need when it gets tough.
We work in cramped quarters and have a lot of together time. It’s not always easy rubbing elbows that closely. But we manage to do it because we know the outcome. We know how important this race for Secretary of State is and hope you will join us. Go back to the “Home” page on the website, Click on “How Can I Help” and get registered so when the time comes, we’ll have a place to bring you in.
Have a great weekend. Aaron, rest up we’re headed for Eastern Oregon on Monday.
I’ve got to go. Kathy, Kim Stark and Rick, that’s me, are going on a long bike ride. I need some activity to get ready for all that drive time to the east.
We’ll be keeping you posted as we’re on our trip with “Webisodes” so stay tuned. Gosh, I sound like I’ve worked in T.V. don’t I?
