A Different View of Our Relationship
Have you ever seen a picture that showed you something you’d never seen before? I had that happen following a recent photo shoot we did for the palm cards we’re producing for the campaign. We’ll be showing you more of those pictures in the coming weeks.
There’s this one picture of my wife and I and it’s so gripping to me that it actually made me stop and just look for the longest moment. It’s as if someone were giving me a glimpse of us, as a couple, that I’d never seen before.
The two of us were walking down the field, along the fence talking about Willard our neighbor. Willard is very special to us and as he grows older we see his health failing. Our conversation was deep, personal and so ordinary for us. But I’ve never seen our relationship from the eyes of someone else. In this case, the onlooker was a camera. It was so odd. I saw us. I saw what I feel we are but had never noticed it from this angle.
My wife completes me. I complete her. We are independent people but we need, love and like to be around each other.
The picture shows me that after 25 years, we still have it. In fact, I think we have “It” better than we ever did. That look on our faces is natural and it takes work. It didn’t come without plenty of work, lots of personal moments and some deep commitment.
So, this is what we look like from the outside in.
Funny how familiar it feels. This is exactly what I thought we’d look like.
