Pedaling A Connection

There’ s nothing quite like cycling to me. There’s something about it that I truly connect with. My wife got me on a bike a few years ago. It started when we took a cycling class at the gym. During the summer I get up early in the morning, ride my bike 12 miles to the gym, do my weight workout and then ride home. It’s a great workout and the best part is you are riding through town when hardly anyone is awake yet.

When your feet are hooked into the pedals it’s like you are part of the bike. I know that sounds odd but it’s true. I’m headed on the campaign trail for a few weeks and won’t have access to my bike.

So this morning, Kathy and I loaded up our bikes and left for the west side of Eugene. We rode nearly 40 miles this morning out near King Estate Winery. It’s a beautiful ride.

Kim Stark, who used to work at KEZI, joined us. She’s big on cycling too. Her birthday is tomorrow (Happy BD Kim) and next Friday she begins a whole new chapter of her life. So, today was all about friends doing what they love, preparing for a new journey.

My favorite sport is skiing but cycling is a very close second. I’m going to go take a shower. We washed the car, cleaned out the inside (for the trip) and now we’re headed to town for coffee, a little shopping and dinner at a new pizza place in town.

This is not too bike related except that I am a biker-but you should know. The UO Nike arena has two hearings(on my birthday-super lucky) at Eugene city hall 7-21-2008 at 7:30 pm in the council chamber 777 pearl . Expect absent media(refusing to notify public of their chance to testify-snakes) and half asleep city council(who published a RG article today detailing their love for Nike). Please send staff or an advisor to take notes if you can. The UO legal situation will likely get bigger and more complicated before long. CTV29 will record the hearing and replay it unedited later in case you can not make it. I will try to post airing times here in the future if anyone want to view the hearing.I beleive this may also face a referendum petition if the council approves the alley vacations. Alan Zelenka should resign over this arena fiasco he has engineered. In other news my life is great and it is good to see that you are making some noise and parading around the state!

Sounds and looks like a lot of fun, Mr. Dancer. My mother and I are getting involved in supporting Oregon politics and a few friends and I are supporting your campaign. We are eager to see Oregon take a fresh turn for the better. May you have a great time on the Trail, with much success, and God bless.

Zack, I am interested in what happens, so good luck. Its nice to see people concerned on both sides, thats whats great about this state, and Eugene in particular.

And Rick… You know I work for papa’s… I come on here all the time and talk great things about you, and make phone calls, and pray for you… then you turn around and eat at my competitions joint. That hurts. I suppose ill still support you, cuz your a good man. Ill forgive your bad taste in Italian Eateries
