It’s weird to think…..

It’s the Friday before my first Primary Election. Okay, I’ve voted in Primary Elections but it’s the first time I’ve ever been on the ballot. It’s a weird feeling to think right now, somewhere in Oregon people are marking your name on a ballot. It’s equally weird to think that come Tuesday, while I don’t have an opponent, people on the news and in homes and on newspapers will be offering opinions about you and what they think they know about you. It’s a hot day today. It’s a quiet day. Not many people answering their phones. It gives me a little time to work on things for next week and to think. When I jumped into this business two months ago, life changed forever. Starting Wednesday morning, it again changes, and I like it.
Don’t forget to vote. Ballots must be in by 8pm Tuesday Evening.

Well I voted, but to my dismay because I’m registered as nonpartisan or something along those lines… I couldn’t vote for you…sad day. Although I did inform the ones I knew that could vote for you to do so. I’m excited for you to be in office…you will make a huge difference!

You know you can’t get my vote this time around, but you will come November. Love you.

I’m pretty frustrated with the management of our government. As you so clearly wrote in an earlier missive: the government should be “of”, “by”, and “for”, the PEOPLE! The system we have in place is called a “legacy” system. That is, it is a system that has developed one layer at a time over time - always building upon what exists instead of building new and better from scratch. The national system seems to be totally out of control. We have the technology today to fairly instantly communicate with the entire nation. There is no longer a need for politicians to visit every state in order to make their pitch. I think we could have a new Primary system in which there is an 8 week period of campaigning, with a limit in spending of $1 million per week per candidate, and then the nation votes all on one day. After that there would be a cooling off period of a couple of months with a gag order on all candidates and then another 8 week period of campaigning in which the candidates could spend $2 million per week each. Doesn’t it make sense that $24 million should be enough money to let everyone in the US who cares to know, know? We need competent, caring, responsible PEOPLE running our government — NOT politicians!
