The real campaign begins

What a night. The results are in and it appears we’ll be facing Kate Brown in November. Obama took Oregon and here in Lane County it appears one of our seats on the county commission will go to the General Election and the Eugene Mayors Race looks to be still up in the air.

There’s a lot going on in this election. Now is the time for all of us to get involved. Do we want change? Who can bring it about? And, when you’re talking about change, what kind of change is it we’re looking for? Change for change sake won’t stand the test of time.

We need people in office who will represent people, not a party. We need to stop the partisanship that causes so much gridlock and get something done. It’s your government, what would you like to do?

Liked your qoute in today’s Daily Emerald.Career politicians have a major liability in just being themselves-part of a ineffective system that needs a complete overhaul(a “total tear down”). You should think of a fairly low campaign spending cap and set it early and very loudly. You may not be wanting to commit early to a low amount but it could cause controversy and end up being part of your core approach. If it’s a very low total cap(in comparison to what others spend or plan to spend/waste)and you let everyone know early that you are out of the ad arms-race that normally happens many may think thats a good sign for government reform. The low spending commitment/controversy may generate positive momentum for others to de-escalate their billboards budgets also. Another government reform issue to consider is timely hearings at project proposal sites instead of Salem. The UO arena got a unpublicized hearing in Salem-attended by one person. That shows you the anarchists are in the government I think . Wave energy parks,”smart “development “visions”, windfarms, gas-fired power plants ,and sea “sanctuary”proposals will all threaten our state until further notice. We need protocol so these proposals can not evade the public like they do now. Place an ad in the campus paper/or write a letter into the campus paper to let us know when you’ll be speaking at UO.

To date 20,135 Oregonians will not have their Presidential votes counted even though the Republican write-in total could very easily generate a delegate and send a message to the RNC regarding who they wish to join John McCain on the Republican ticket. Oregon like the majority of the Republican primaries doles out their delegates based on the percentage of the vote that each candidate receives from the primary so if as is currently the case 4.2% of the total Republican vote was cast via write-in then there is a possibility that there would be a 3.7% vote for one candidate who then would be owed one delegate. This is a simple concept that all voters will understandably be infuriated by and that you should shout from the rooftops.
“Over 20,000 Oregon Presidential write-in votes will not be counted by our Secretary of State.” We need an honest Secretary of State to ensure that all our eligible votes are counted accurately all the time. After having met you I know you are the only person for the job! Go Rick Dancer, Go!
